Industrial Automation

Industrial automation consists of having tasks performed by machines, in order to reduce the workload of operators, while increasing productivity and improving quality.

It uses complex systems that come directly from electronics:

  • Analog and digital sensors
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Communication buses (CAN, CANopen, Profibus, etc.)
  • 2D or 3D vision

The ultimate goal is to "replace" humans with repetitive and arduous tasks, which is why automation is increasingly associated with robotization.

The key element of automation, however, remains the PLC. This programmable electronic device processes information received from input sensors, instructions, and its program to send commands through sequential processing.
